HR Chatbots: A friend of H.R. indeed!

HR Chatbots: A friend of H.R. indeed!

We have all heard of Alexa, Ok Google, Siri in our homes, mobile phones, laptops, and other places.

Imagine if we have an Alexa or a Google Assistant in HR to help us to better serve our stakeholders anytime, anywhere. The good news is that these technologies can be extended to HR operations as well.

Most of the time an HR professional’s time is spent on answering queries from employees, clarifying policies, rules & procedures, explaining employee benefits and other tactical information. Chatbots can help automate these processes and tirelessly help answer all of the employees’ concerns, questions, and queries.

Digital technologies can be used to address these concerns of the HR department. Artificial Intelligence uses machine learning, image recognition, voice recognition, text recognition, and robotic process automation to help in communicating, interacting, and engaging with employees.

It helps in storing data, retrieving data, interpreting data, and presenting data whenever needed. Robotic process automation helps to automate routine repetitive mundane tasks and relieves the HR professional’s time to help them move up the value chain and focus on the higher-order needs of employees.

There are two types of chatbots that can help immensely in screening and scheduling candidate interviews: Cognitive chatbots and rule-based chatbots.

  • Rule-based chatbots are chatbots that execute certain tasks based on certain pre-defined rules and behaviors in line with the company HR Policy.
  • They are designed to easily complete simple tasks, help automate workflows, track and monitor progress and escalate if necessary.
  • Cognitive chatbots are chatbots that use AI, machine learning, and natural language understanding (NLU) techniques to understand what is being said (communicated) and interpret patterns, emotions, and questions and try to replicate a natural human dialogue.
  • Cognitive chatbots help accomplish more complicated tasks that traditionally only human beings are capable of doing, such as planning, learning, and reasoning
